Stuck in a creative rut?
Ideas are all around you (that’s why you should always have your journal with you).
Here are some unusual places where you can find inspiration for your next story…
1: Public Transportation and Bars
The world is, for the most part, a circus, and you don’t even have to pay the entry ticket. People-watch and eavesdrop on conversations. You’ll be amazed at the stories that unfold before your eyes.
Needless to say, do it with discretion: not everyone want’s to be part of your next story.
2: Museums and Art Galleries
Immerse yourself in the work of the excellencies of the past.
Art and history can spark ideas for characters, settings, or themes.
3: Second-Hand Stores
The history of an object can inspire a whole story. A vintage photograph or a worn-out book could be the catalyst.
The stories behind old items are often great to give depth to your own stories.
4: Nature
Take a hike, go camping, or simply sit in a park. The beauty and vastness of nature can be incredibly inspiring. And you don’t need to go far…
Often we live near amazing places, and we take them for granted because they are “normal” to us.
5: Libraries
That magical place that most people replaced with TV, Audiobooks and Kindles. Get lost in a random book.
You never know what you might discover.
6: Local Events
Attend festivals, farmers markets, or community gatherings. You’ll meet interesting people and possibly see things that spark your creativity.
Try to go to events where you would never go in the first place and see what happens.
7: Dreams
Pay attention to your dreams. Write them in your diary. Don’t bother trying to interpret them (it’s all B.S. anyway).
Just enjoy them and see what can you find in them.
