Mastery, Constant Repetition and the Hidden Problem that destroys lives

Constant repetition of actions and habits leads to mastery.

And hit is a Gargantuan problem.

Because this simple fact is probably destroying your life…

Millennials and procrastination

Most people of my generation pride themselves of being lazy procrastinators.

As if that was something to be proud of. But it’s more than just social media posturing.

Most of my peers are more than lazy procrastinators…

They are master procrastinators.

They could hold seminars about their masterful ways.

Or at least they would if they weren’t so lazy…

And they developed real procrastination strategies.

Just like alcoholics do with their addiction…

And I can confirm that!

When, over 10 years ago I had issues with alcohol, I developed ways to:

  • hide the fact that I was drunk
  • drink in plain sight with no one noticing (that’s a Nat 20 for you in one of the worst addictions)
  • hiding bottles almost anywhere for easy access

I mastered drinking and getting drunk.

And once you master something, you create:

  • a comfort zone that’s hard to escape from
  • habits that are hard to break
  • physical and mental problems that only come out months later

Changing habits change what you master.

Start keeping a journal and write down everything you do, even the small things.

It’s hard, I know, but it’s important.

Because everything you do is something you are mastering.

Some sneaky examples?

  • Doing it later instead of now
  • making up excuses for not working out
  • buying that extra pack of chips you shouldn’t get
  • doomscrolling before going to bed
  • leaving works half done
  • shopping as a form of therapy
  • not having your partner and children as a priority
  • watching videos instead of reading

Rewiring your habits to master different skills

These all look like small things.

But, on repeat, they become habits. And, from simply ignoring your partner once because you are not in the right mood becomes more and more habitual.

And, after 5/10 years, this simple habit can avalanche into a family-destroying problem.

Change one habit at a time.

Don’t over do it.

If you change too much too quickly, your body and mind will reject the change and return you to your old self.

But, with one step at a time, you will see improvements faster than you think possible.
