The 1000-hours rule in Public for maximum efficiency

Yesterday I wrote a short article on how the 1000-hour rule is the only true way to create excellent artistic work.

Today we have an opportunity that was completely unavailable up until 30 years ago. We can develop our work in public.

This is a huge advantage, and not many artists use it fully.

Working in public.

On social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter, YouTube and Twitch, you can see people publishing devlogs when creating indie videogames.

Some, like Thor from PirateSoftware, have gained popularity thanks to his dev streams. However, numerous game developers employ the same approach, gradually showcasing their creations over time. I see writers on platforms like Wattpad and comic artists on Instagram doing the same thing.

Many artists don’t use these platforms to their advantage for fear of criticism and negative feedback.

However, you should welcome them, as they can sometimes help you improve your work more quickly.

Develop an excellent work of art while you develop your personal brand.

Working in public allows you to get those 1000 hours under your belt while showing your progress.

As a result, you will develop your personal artistic brand in an organic way. You will build an audience without the need for big ad spends. After all, you will be doing exactly what you would do to develop excellent artwork. But you do it in a way that others can enjoy and appreciate.

And the following you are going to build will be stronger and help you grow even more in your future endeavors
