When I was 18, I participated for 3 months in the famous Herbalife MultiLevel Marketing Pyramid.
While that experience was overall unimpressive, I learned one vital lesson. During one of the sales seminars I attended, I asked the host, “How do I find more clients?“. Keep in mind that Internet marketing was in very early stages back then, so the best way to find clients was offline, the old-fashioned way.
He answered me “Go talk to them, have a friendly chat, and then, when you think the time is right, tell them what products you sell. Don’t be pushy or insistent. Just let them know what you offer.”
Talk about it.
This is the simplest advice the host could have possibly given me.
It’s almost a given.
And yet, how many artists create beautiful works of art and don’t tell anyone about it? I see this happening time and time again. For example, I have 2 friends that began drama school with me and now are professional actors. They perform a stage play every few months.
But guess what…
They never say it. Yes, they post the playbill on Facebook and Instagram. But then they expect everyone to know and remember it.
It would be easier if they told people. Avoid being pushy. By simply talking about it, they would fill the theater easily and without spending a dime on paid promotions.
This applies to every piece of art.
- If you wrote a book, say so and tell people where they can find it (in case they want to buy it).
- If you create comics, tell them and maybe create a business card.
- If you composed an album, say it and if they are curious, have it at the ready on your phone.
You’ll be surprised at how many people will actually appreciate the fact that you told them.
