These are the 6 essential storytelling elements that you need to captivate your audience

Stories, to be really captivating, need to include these 6 essential elements.

It doesn’t matter if the story is long or short, or if it’s written, spoken o told through one of the countless storytelling mediums (comics, videogames, songs, etc…).

Without these 6 elements, your stories will not be as impactful and remarkable as they can be.

Element 1: Interesting Characters.

Your audience needs someone to relate to.

The more realistic a character is, the better.

Bonus points if the character has some traits, hopes and desires in common with the audience members.

Element 2: Plot.

Plots are the backbone of any story.

Create a clear beginning, middle, and end with unexpected twists.

There are many plot types that are simple, tested and still very effective, because the talk to the deepest aspect of our humanity.

Element 3: Conflict.

Without challenges and struggles, there’s no story.

Your characters must face some sort of obstacle.

The bigger, the better.

Element 4: Setting.

Where and when is your story taking place?

Use vivid descriptions to immerse your audience.

Use all senses when describing your setting, so your audience will immerse even better in your stories.

Element 5: Theme.

What’s the underlying message of your story?

A strong theme gives your story purpose.

And this is what makes certain stories more memorable and impactful than others.

Element 6: Grabbing Attention.

Hook your audience from the start.

We live in a distracted society. The more you can grab people’s attention, the more remarkable all your stories will become.
